Berbice were two wickets away from victory when bad light stopped play at the end of the third day in their first round Inter-County Cricket match against the Rest Team yesterday, at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
Needing 414 runs to win, the Rest Team closed the day on 223-8, still 191 runs away from victory with just two wickets intact.
At the crease were pacer Keyron Fraser and Steven Latcha, both yet to get off the mark.
Resuming on their overnight score of 290-3, Berbice went on to make 437 all out with Narsingh Deonarine making 145 and Homchand Pooran 88, being the principal scorers.
Other useful contributions came from Esaun Crandon 20 and Ranga Latcha 17.
The pick of the bowlers for the Rest Team was off-spinner Steven Latcha, who grabbed 4-79 from 25 overs, while Deon Ferrier 3-44 off 10 and Sauid Drepaul’s 2-125 of 25.3 overs supported admirably.
In reply, the Rest team played with aggressive intent, but lost wickets intermittently and despite solid efforts from Vishaul Singh, who smashed a swashbuckling 70 which included 8 fours and 2 sixes, Drepaul’s 50 that contained 8 boundaries and a solitary maximum, Ryan Fredericks’ 48 with 6 fours and 3 sixes, still face an uphill task to stave off defeat.
Earlier, former West Indies opener Ryan Ramdass made 22 and fellow opener Trevon Griffith supported with14.
Devendra Bishoo has so far snared 4-52 from 14 overs, while Deonarine finished with 2-30 off 6.1 overs.
The match concludes today.
