Horseracing action goes to Mahaicony on the East Coast Demerara on Sunday October 4, when the Anjue and Hamlet Park racetrack, the only one in Demerara, stages a grand one day horserace meet at the club track at it Mahaicony Branch Road location.
Eight races are listed on the day’s card with close to $3M in prize money up for grabs. Several top notch races are listed on the day’s card with C & Lower event with a first prize of $300,000 over a distance of 1200m being the main attraction.
Another feature event on the day’s card is the three year old open for horses born and bred in Guyana clashing over 1200m for the first prize of $200,000. The 2yr old race will also be for horses born and bred here and classified in the ‘I’ three category covering 1100m with the winner collecting $180,000.
The F and lower 1200m sprint is another top of the line race on the days programme and has similar prize money of 180,000. The H class open 1200m gallop will see the winner getting $120,000.
Other races on the day are for I three and lower horses also over 1200m with a $100,000 purse. The division one and two 1200m event will see the winner taking home $90,000.
The final event on the days programme also a 1200m contest, is for horses in the division three category with a first prize of $80,000 at stake.
Reports out of Mahaicony are that a lot of improvements have being done to the facilities, bringing it on par with the others in the country. The track, which is a grass track, is the only one in the country and has been upgraded recently.
Persons interested in having their horses participate in the days proceedings are asked to get in touch with Mr. Amernauth Kirtipaul on Telephone numbers 623-1009 or 624-9104 or at the Arjune and Hamlet race track at Mahaicony Branch road. Entries close on Sunday September 27.
Horse owners are also reminded to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as those horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the days proceedings. Race time is 13:00 hrs
