– Lead Rest Team by 267 runs
An unbroken 136-run fourth wicket partnership between centurion Narsingh Deonarine (101 not out) and Homchand Pooran (47 not out) gave Berbice the upper hand at the end of the second day’s play in their first round Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 4-Day match against a Rest Team which is being played, at the DC ground yesterday.
Berbice at the close were in a commanding position on 290-3, a lead of 267 runs with seven wickets in hand.
They had earlier trailed the Rest Team by 23 runs after conceding first innings points. Deonarine’s knock included 8 fours and 1 six, while his century came up in 171 minutes off 118 balls, while Pooran, who has looked solid so far, innings contained 2 boundaries.
Other good contributions came from opener Delbert Hick, who slammed a belligerent 66 laced with 6 fours and 5 maximums and Assad Fudadin’s 57 which was enclosed with 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.
West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon failed to impress, making just 3.
Earlier, the Rest Team resumed on their overnight score of 147-6 and were bowled out for 228, enjoying a lead of 23 runs.
Sauid Drepaul (54) smashed a half century which was spiced with 9 fours, while Alex Amsterdam contributed 25. Bowling for Berbice, Veersammy Permaul captured 4-36, while Devendra Bishoo picked up 3-64.
Opener Trevon Griffith top-scored with an attractive 61. The match continues today.
