Residents of North and South Ruimveldt, Bagotstown and Nandy Park are breathing a sigh of relief as critical infrastructure works got underway.
The works involve the paving of roads and the rehabilitation of bridges that were in a state of disrepair for a considerable length of time.
In Bagotstown, a wooden bridge which has been treacherous for years, is currently being rehabilitated as well as a similar structure in the nearby Nandy Park.
Work commenced on both bridges yesterday.
And in North Ruimveldt, work on the long overdue repairs to Upper Aubrey Barker Street has already begun to bring relief to minibus operators and other motorists.
Road users had lamented the deplorable state of the road which they pointed out was damaging their vehicles.
Minibus operators were in the main, reluctant to use the damaged section of the road, forcing passengers on many occasions to walk the remainder of their journey.
Apart from the Upper Aubrey Barker Road, work is being done on some of the access roads in the North Ruimveldt area.
Among the works being done is the paving of the last entrance to North Ruimveldt which was punctuated with huge craters.
The work also involves the grading of parapets to allow for the proper drainage of water from the repaired roads.
Kaieteur News understands that all the works are being undertaken by the Ministry of Public Works.
