Dear Editor,
I write as a concerned Guyanese. I am no politician. I am affiliated to no political party. My qualification for raising my voice is being the mother of four sons and two daughters.
The alleged sexual advances of Kwame Mc Coy toward a 15-year-old lad rile me to the core! And the fact that he is on the Commission for the Rights of the Child is no consolation!
Mc Coy accused the press of “smearing my character…” which leads me to believe that he recognises that the behavioural pattern that is the subject of the accusation reeks of defilement and negativity. He is thereby admitting that a person of good character would not engage in or support same-sex liaisons. So just in case these accusations are proven true, we could safely say that he has already, indirectly admitted to degenerate behaviour – behaviour that would be deemed uncharacteristic of a wholesome, ‘normal’ male.
It is time for every decent citizen – every mother, every father, every sister, every brother to raise their voices at such indignity. We cannot sit back and allow our country, our society our children, the wave of the future, to be trampled upon by such predators, irrespective of their connections.
We must put our petty partisan, political and racial and other differences aside and raise our voices in unison for our children, be they red, yellow, black, brown, or white. If we remain passive and paralyzed now we will have only ourselves to blame if our sons are given the ‘right’ (perhaps by the same Commission), to swing their hips and hang their wrists while strutting on stilettos.
Whether you believe in God or not, is, in the end, irrelevant. God Is, and He still says “Righteousness exalts a nation…”.Unless we uphold righteousness our Nation is doomed. …But we are hopeful, as we continue to see evidence of God answering our prayers and as He exposes iniquity. Rise up Guyana and let us make a difference in this land.
