A man who decided to take advantage of a lonely woman and robbed her of the two gold chains she was wearing, but, did not cater for the police patrol, was on Friday jailed for three years.
The man, Zakir Khan, 18, of New Street, New Amsterdam was jailed by Magistrate Chandra Sohan after he was found guilty of larceny from the person.
The bandit was accused of robbing Janet Kuldip, called ‘Lillo’ of two gold chains on December 5, 2007.
The court heard that on the day in question, the woman was standing alone at the corner of Main Street and Theatre Ally when the accused, who was 16 years old at the time, rode up on a bicycle and snatched the two chains from her neck and rode away.
A police patrol was passing and noticed the commotion. The accused was caught some distance away after a lively chase.
