A masterful display of well-choreographed moves, coupled with a further breathtaking performance of superb techniques, impressed the judges and earned Interline Gym representative, Oswyn Jones, the senior Mr. Guyana Bodybuilding crown when the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) staged that championship at the National Cultural Centre, Sunday evening last.
Clint Duke of the Universal Barbell Gym also turned in a crowd pleasing performance but just could not find the magic to out-pose Jones.
He came in second while Rawle Green of Buddies, whose physique appeared well-toned, but lacked mass, placed third in this category.
Green did not go home empty handed. The slimly built bodybuilder competed unchallenged in the Mr. Guyana 165-176lbs category, at the end of which, he was officially pronounced the winner.
In the female category, Alisha Fortune, of Studio 2000, out-posed Mellisa Roberts to win the Ms Body Fitness open category. She returned later on and posed unchallenged to cart off the Ms. Guyana 2009 crown in the open category.
Jafar Mohammed and Alfred London next competed for the Masters title, eventually won by London who represented Total Fitness. The battle for the top spot in the Mr. Guyana over 176lbs saw three contestants, Oswin Jones, Mitchell Rogers and Dennis Mohammed competing against each other. Once again, Mohammed had to settle for third place behind second place finisher, Rogers and eventual winner, Jones.
The Mr. Guyana Overall pose down was contested between Oswyn Jones, Clint Duke and Rawle Green. The three entertained the spectators with scintillating displays of the double biceps, side chest, lat spread and abdominals among other poses. In the end it was Jones who eventually managed to flex his way into the judges’ hearts ahead of Duke and Green, respectively.
The small but vociferous crowd was entertained from the start of the programme when the twelve contestants engaged in the compulsory pose segment. With the exception of a few, the competitors wowed the audience with excellent displays of front and back double biceps, abdominal shots, lat spreads and side triceps among others.
Maybe the organizers kept the best for the last when former police officer, Eustace ‘Robo Cop’ Abrams, now residing overseas, guest posed for the audience. Making a grand entrance from the back of the auditorium, the well toned Abrams delighted the audience with a scintillating display that was only too brief.
Rippling abs was complimented with a superb lat spread and a great double bicep pose among others. When ‘Robocop’ exited the stage, the supporters called for an encore. Despite their most ardent pleas, Abrahams refused to make a second appearance and the curtains came down with the spectators mulling on the final performance regarded as the icing on a well baked cake.
