The Guyana Karate Federation held is 2009 Seniors Karate Championship on Sunday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Championship started at 13:00 hrs with the march on of the participants followed by Opening remarks be the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Dr. Frank Anthony.
Dr. Anthony commended the Federation for its effort in having the tournament regularly and its commitment towards sports and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The minister urged the Federation to decentralise and open more dojos where persons interested in learning karate can go.
After the Minister’s speech the karatekas did a brief demonstration on Heian Shodan kata and three step sparring (Sanbon Kumite).

Judges were Amir Khouri, Winston Dunbar, Christopher Chaves, Nandrandra Lall, Jenifer Cyrus, Bhagwandin Persaud and Marvin Singh.
After the tournament the President – Amir Khouri thanked all the executives of the Federation for their support at the head table, Mr. Nicholas Hing of Guyana Times, The Guyana Red Cross, Mr. Neil Kumar and the National Sports Commission.
The National Sports Commission donated the trophies.
