Gentle wins GLTA’s ‘18 and under’ title
-Miller, Lopes make it to Boys final

Arguably the best junior girl locally, Shawna Gentle returned with a bang when she captured the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) – organised18 and under title over the weekend at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel Hardcourts.
The tournament which formed a series of competitions mandated by the International Tennis Federation to keep junior players active in the absence of regional and international engagements saw Gentle play unbeaten from a group of five players, ending 4-0.
Among her casualties were Krystal Sukra, who finished with a decent record of 3-1, Aruna Ramrattan (2-2), Nicola Ramdyhan (1-3) and Tracey Azeez (0-4).
The Boys segment has reached the final with Jeremy Miller scheduled to take on the fast improving Daniel Lopes.
Playing in three groups comprising three players each, Miller emerged winner of Group A with a 2-0 record after defeating Savion David Longe and Jason Glasgow; Anthony Downes then captured Group B with wins over Seanden David Longe and Rajesh Ramrattan, while Jonathan Antczak gained a similar result in Group C with victories against Daniel Lopes and Samuel Glasgow.
Miller and Downes due to their superior record in the round robin stage each secured a bye in the knockout phase.
In results of the knockout stage, Savion David Longe lost to D. Lopes 5-7, 6-3, 4-6; Seanden David Longe went down to J. Antczak 1-6, 6-7, 3-6.
In semi-final action- J. Miller defeated J. Antczak 6-1, 6-1, while D. Lopes gained a walkover from A. Downes.
