– flees leaving blowtorch, crowbar behind
A former rank of the Central Passport and Immigration Office is expected to appear in court soon for breaking into the department with intent to steal.
The rank, Dwayne Rodrigues, was nabbed shortly after he bolted from the Camp Street office after he was seen by a female rank on Saturday night.
He had left behind a blow torch, crowbar and other house breaking implements.
Kaieteur News understands that Rodrigues had gained entry to the passport office through a window.
He was confronted by a female staff member, who was in the building at the time and who had recognised him.
Realising that he was in big trouble, Rodrigues bolted past the rank and exited the building. An alarm was raised and he was subsequently nabbed and placed into custody.
A few years ago scores of empty passports were stolen from the immigration office.
A number of them turned up in the hands of some illegal immigrants and well known backtrackers.
One was held responsible for that incident, although there was a major shake-up of the top brass of that department.
