In an effort to foster improved standards at boxing cards, the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) is employing stringent rules towards the conduct of all stakeholders, tightening up on the laxity seen at previous promotions.
Towards this end, the administration of that organization has scheduled a meeting for all promoters, boxers and other officials involved in the promotion of the Holland Enterprise/S&S Promotions Boxing card slated for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall next week Saturday night.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at the King’s Plaza, Main Street Georgetown at 19:00hrs and former Secretary of the GBBC, Trevor Arno said that even though the topics would relate to the upcoming card, all promoters and boxing affiliates are invited.
Arno said that the recent excessive numbers of unauthorized persons in the dressing rooms has triggered some concern among GBBC officials.
He pointed out that this area is supposed to be off limits to all other persons except board officials and members of the boxing teams. He said that such incidences can prove awkward since unauthorized persons in the dressing rooms can prove to be catastrophic.
Arno also mentioned the lax attitudes of the boxers when they are summoned to the ring.
He said that on most occasions the boxers only exit the dressing rooms after repeated calls. “We intend to put a stop to this type of behaviour,” Arno said.
President of the GBBC, Peter Abdool, has recently been elevated to the presidential seat of the Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) and the eyes of the boxing affiliates in the region and the wider world would be upon this country, measuring the systems and attitudes of the local boxing board.
As such Arno said that it is imperative that the local Board enact the relevant policies in keeping with a free and fair environment.
