Fifteen year old Cynthya Latchman is currently nursing several stab wounds to the abdomen at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The incident occurred around 15:15 hours yesterday at Crane Housing Scheme.
Kaieteur News was able to speak to the victim, who managed to say, “I went on de road and this boy come and juk me up.”
Latchman’s sister, Andrea Latchman, of lot B Best Bowenville, Vreed-en- Hoop, West Coast Demerara, told Kaieteur News that her sister was in a relationship with her attacker, whom she named as ‘Tejnauth Mangal’. The attacker, according to relatives, is known to reside in the same area as Latchman.
The one year relationship went sour after Latchman’s father decided to put a stop to the communication between the two, four months ago.
This came as a result of the many violent encounters in which the 15-year old would be severely assaulted.
The alleged attacker became angered by this and resorted to threatening Latchman on several occasions. Despite her father’s efforts to keep him away from his daughter, the enraged ex-boyfriend persisted in communicating with Latchman and was verbally abusive.
Several complaints were made by the sister to police, resulting in his arrest on two occasions.
However, according to the injured teen’s relatives, nothing came out of the arrests. The sister further stated that a cousin of the attacker known as ‘Terry’ had prompted Mangal to kill her (Cynthya Latchman) and then commit suicide on several occasions.
Up to press time Cynthya was listed as critical at the GPHC.
