Horserace lovers will be thoroughly entertained when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club presents a grand Diwali Horse Race meeting on Sunday October 18.
Eight races are carded for the day with the feature event being an intense battle among horses in the B and Lower class category.
The race is scheduled to cover 1200 meters and the winner gallops off with a whooping $350,000 ‘smackaroos.’
The jockey riding in second would also receive a handsome reward, $175,000, while $87,000 and $45,000 goes to the respective third and fourth place finishers.
The 3 year olds will provide added entertainment as they compete over a distance of 1600 meters.
The winning jockeys would ride away with $250,000 with the second place finisher winning $125,000.
The third and fourth place finishers take home $62,000 and $32,000, respectively.
The excitement continues with the race in the F and lower category over 1200 meters.
A top prize of $220,000 is guaranteed for the first jockey to cross the finish line while the second place finisher gallops away with $175,000.
The third and fourth places receive $87,000 and $45,000 respectively.
Several other exciting races are carded for the day and include, the G and H and lower, over a distance of 1100 meters for $150,000, the 2 years old non-winners for $180,000H, the unclassified division 1 & 2 for $120,000, the I and Lower for $130,000, while the Unclassified Division 3 for $90,000 will bring the curtains down on another exciting day at the tracks.
The NSMTC wishes to remind participants that all races are being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
A minimum of seven horses must face the starters’ gun in order for the fourth place prize to be in effect while a minimum of five horses must start the race to attract the third place prize. All horse owners must be registered by the GHRA.
Owners may enter their animals through Mr. Ghansham Singh at telephone # 649-3636 or Mr. Lionel Moonsammy (614-58120). Entries close on October 11 at the club’ office at No.6 Village West Coast Berbice or the persons previously named.
Owners are also urged to present their animals for inspection by the vet no later than 11:30hrs on race day. There would be no correction of classification on race day.
