The Berbice Cricket Board would be celebrating its 70th Anniversary during a week of celebration from today September 20 to next Sunday September 27 under the Theme “Celebrating a Glorious Past”.
The Board was formed in September 1939 with the main aim of promoting cricket in the ancient county and over the years has guided the administration of Berbice Cricket quite successfully. The county since 1939 has produced a total of 13 Test Players including former greats like Rohan Kanhai, Joe Solomon, Basil butcher, Alvin Kallicharran and Roy Fredericks.
The Special Events Committee under the chairmanship of Hilbert Foster, Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has been mandated by the Berbice Cricket Board to organise events for the week of celebration.
The planned week of activities starts today with an Inter-Religious Service at the Board’s Office, Cheddi Jagan Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, at 09.00 hours. An Inter County Under-17, 40-Overs match between Berbice and Demerara would be played at the Rose Hall, Canje Ground starting at 11.00 hours.

(Tomorrow) Monday 21st September, 2009: Donation of $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars) worth of clothing to the Anjuman Children Home in New Amsterdam, Berbice. A live Television Discussion on the History of the Game in Berbice on NCN Channel 15 at 20.35 hours. Panelist would be former BCB Secretary Mortimer George, Keith Foster, Mark Lyte, Anil Beharry and Carl Moore.
Tuesday 22nd September, 2009: Launching of GTM sponsored Berbice All Time Under-19 Team at the Board’s office at 13.00 hours. Sharing out of Prizes to Essay Competition Winners. Hampers to 10 (ten) Retired First Division Cricketers.
Wednesday 23rd September, 2009: Opening of Exhibition on the work of BCB at the Board’s office at 12.30 hours. Quiz Competition for Secondary School Students at 13.00 hours. Impromptu Speech Competition for Students at 14.00 hours. Cellink Cricket Quiz Competition on NCN Channel 15 at 20.35 hours.
Thursday 24th September, 2009: Honouring of 15 (fifteen) Cricket Workers of the Year Awardees at 13.00 hours. Honouring of Media Workers. Inducting former Presidents Roy Baijnauth and Malcolm Peters as Life members of the Board. Mini Cocktail Reception for all awardees at 14.00 hours.
Friday 25th September, 2009: Live Television discussion on DTV-8 at 18.30 hours to 19.30 hours on the Topic “The Laws and Rules of Cricket” – Panelist would be 2 (two) Umpires 2 (two) Coaches.
Saturday 26th September, 2009: Medical Outreach Programme with the Guyana defence Force at Charlotte Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, from 09.00 hours to 14.00 hours.
Sunday 27th September, 2009: HIV/AIDS March and Rally with 300 Young Cricketers at Esplanade Recreation Park at 09.00 hours. Over 40 Cricket Match between Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje/West Berbice at the Cumberland Ground. The Berbice Cricket Board is inviting all cricketers past and present, clubs officials past and present, Board Administrators, Umpires, Coaches and the general public to join in celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Guyana’s most dynamic county board.
