A fine allround performance by Zaheer Mohamed guided Sans Souci Jaguars S.C. to a 3 wicket victory over Zeelandia S.C. in a feature 35 overs Cricket match sponsored by Shorab Ali last Sunday at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
Zeelandia won the toss and elected to bat first and suffered an early set back when opener Ajay Ghansham was bowled by medium pacer Mohamed in the first over without scoring.
Nandcoomar Budhram and Jerry Adams then took the score to 60 in 10 overs before Adams departed for 31. Budhram was then joined by Gowkarran Pooran and the pair added 40 runs for the third wicket partnership before Budram was removed by Moin Khan for 33 in the 18th over to leave the score at 100-3. Offspinner Nokta Moses had Pooran caught at mid wicket for 30 in the 26th over to trigger a collapse by the Zeelandia team as they were all out for 164 in 34 overs.
Mohamed (2-19), Khan (3-22), Moses (2-24) and Ceon Venture (2-25) were the wreckers for the Jaguars who started off their reply disastrously losing wickets at regular intervals to be at 40-6 in 8 overs.
Mohamed and Venture then added 70 for the sixth wicket taking the score to 110 in 15 overs in the process. Venture, who was never afraid to go over the top, hit one six and four fours before he was bowled by medium pacer Darmin Pooran for 37.
Mohamed was then joined by 15 year old Rashaad Rasheed and the pair featured in an unbroken eight wicket partnership of 56 as the Jaguars won the game in 33 overs ending on 166-7.
Man-of-the-match Mohamed, who is also an Umpire and a coach, hit six fours in his unbeaten 48, while Rasheed who played the supporting role to his senior partner, ended on 11 not out. Pooran and Budhram took two wickets each for Zeelandia. The Jaguars collected the winning trophy.
Shorab Ali thanked the teams for participating.
