Safraz X1 defeated Lall X1 by 99 runs when the Mike’s Pharmacy 15 overs, countrywide, round hand softball cricket competition, organised by the Guyana Softball League continued last weekend at various venues countrywide.
Playing in the Georgetown zone at the Providence Ground, Safraz X1 batted first and scored 205-4 in 15 overs, Richard Latiff (73) and Rudolph Johnson (51) top scored for the winners while Steven Joseph (2-35 from 3 overs) carted off bowling honours. In reply, Lall X1 fell short of the target after compiling 111 all out in 12 overs.
In matches played in the Essequibo Zone, countrywide champions, Die Hard X1 defeated Reliance X1 by 59 runs to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Die Hard X1 batted first and scored 190-4 in 15 overs. Jitendra Emrit (77) and Darshan Narine (44) were the best batsmen for the winners while Khemraj Seecharran (2-20 from 3 overs) was the best bowler. In response, Reliance could only post 131-6 when their allotted overs expired.
In other matches played that day, Street Boys X1 defeated West Side Underdogs X1 by 4 wickets. West Side Underdogs X1 batted first and made 118-5 all out. Street Boys X1 then lashed off the required total (119-6) in 12 overs.
Street Boys X1 returned later in the day and defeated Bent Street X1 by 90 runs.
In matches played in the East Coast Zone, Rockets X1 defeated Gas X1 by 4 wickets. The latter team then returned and defeated Legacy X1 by 13 runs.
Other results are: Success X1 defeated Annandale West X1 (in their second match) by 22 runs, Annandale West then made light work of Gas X1, also playing in their second match, by 30 runs. Legacy X1, in their second match made 159-6 off 15 overs. They then returned to restrict Harry X1 to a similar total but lost by the rule that states that the side batting last must score more that the one batting first.
In the over 40 category for the Wellman Trophy, Rangers Masters defeated Industry Super Kings by 46 runs. Rangers Masters were inserted and scored 145 all out in 24.5 overs. Marcus Nagappa (31) top scored while Jaggernauth Singh (4-24 from 5 overs) was the best bowler. In reply, Industry Super Kings were restricted to 99 all out in 21 overs.
In the female category for the Wellwoman trophy, Coomaka Queens got the better of Sunrise Angels by 4 wickets to book their place into the quarter finals while in the Demerara Zone, at the Leonora Ground, Rangers Masters defeated Industry Super Kings by 46 runs:
Rangers Masters were inserted and scored 145 all out in 24.5 overs. Marcus Nagappa (31) top scored while his teammate, Jaggernauth Singh (4-24 from 5 overs) carted off the bowling honours. In reply, Industry Super Kings were limited to 99 all out in 21 overs. The competition continues this weekend with the start of the 1st knockout stage of the open / regular category. Pacesetters and South Star of Linden will oppose Georgetown Champions Safraz XI and Street Boys X1, respectively while Wakenaam’s All Star X1 and Belle Plain battle against two West Coast teams-Wolf Warriors and Rangers Sports club, respectively.
