President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday denounced City Mayor Hamilton Green as obsolete and of being of a different era.
He stated that should the leader of the Main Opposition Party Robert Corbin agree to have in place an Interim Management Committee then he is supportive of that and should instruct such a course of action given the unacceptable state of affairs as it relates to the Capital City, Georgetown.
According to Jagdeo, Green’s outcries for more funds to be injected into the City Council are lame excuses for his inability to properly function as Mayor of Georgetown.
Jagdeo told media operatives yesterday at his press briefing at State House that “anyone who had a modicum of sense……who could use one percent of their brain…..would recognize that most of the problems in the city have to do with the inefficiency, lack of leadership there and lack of accountability.”
He noted that had Mayor Green possessed a minutia of common sense then he would have known that, “his two by two initiatives that he is proposing will not raise a fraction of the monies that we (the Government) have spent in the city.”
Jagdeo drew reference to the many streets in the city such as Lamaha, Robb, and Regent among others, which he stated that his Government has spent millions of dollars to repair over the years.
He further emphasized the large taxes that government pays as well as the costly equipment that was handed over to the Mayor and City Council (M&CC), and the amount of times that the M&CC was bailed out by the Government.
President Jagdeo also told the gathering that he could no longer work with Hamilton Green, and stated that he will be meeting with the members of the City Council, Robeson Benn, Minister of Transport and Hydraulics and Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh to have talks concerning the future of the City Council.
Jagdeo concluded his lash out at Green by saying “(I) will work with people in the city council who are a little decent and hard working, and will exclude Hamilton Green from all of this.”
