Wakenaam, East Bank Essequibo, Pomeroon and South Essequibo have qualified for the semi-finals of the Busta Essequibo 50 overs Cricket Festival which is scheduled for Saturday.
Zone B winner Wakenaam will take on Zone A runner up South Essequibo at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground while Zone B runner up East Bank Essequibo will come up against Zone A champions Pomeroon at Teneeze Farm in Pomeroon.
Meanwhile, the final Zone B match fixed for the Parika Salem Ground on Sunday between host East Bank Essequibo and Wakenaam was washed out without a ball being bowled.
The semi-finals are expected to be exiting since all the team boast a number of talented players.
The Wakenaam team will be led by Essequibo batsman Navishaul Pooran and includes exiting wicketkeeper batsman Wayne Osborne, former Guyana U-15 player Oyono Sampson, allrounder Roopnarine Persaud , Guyana U-15 vice captain Ricardo Adams, left arm spinner Imran Khan, pacer Olwin Paton and Essequibo four day selectee Nazeer Mohamed.
Talented Essequibo opener Norman Federicks will spearhead the South Essequibo team with support from former Guyana U-19 players Norwayne Federicks and Dillon Heyliger, Patrick Rooplall and Guyana U-19 left arm spinner Anthony Adams.
Veteran Ramesh Narine, opener Barry Alphonso, Anthony Persaud, Basil Persaud and former Essequibo U-19 player Chris Williams will lead Pomeroon’s challenge against national pacer Trevon Garraway, Trevon Benn, Yogister Bachan, Mark Braithwaithe and Jason Heyliger who will be on show for the East Bank Essequibo team.
All matches are expected to start at 9:30 am.
