A male relative of missing American Kwame Rumel Jobronewet was taken into custody yesterday as police continue to receive reports that the 67-year-old man was slain and disposed of in Buxton.
The relative, who resides in Buxton, was arrested at a construction site in the East Coast Demerara community.
Kaieteur News understands that detectives have received several reports that the relative and two brothers who reside in the neighbouring community of Friendship, East Coast Demerara, have knowledge of Jobronewet’s whereabouts.
The brothers were detained last week, but were released after police were unable to link them to the US citizen’s disappearance.
Police also came up empty-handed after searching a yard belonging to the men’s mother and other sections of Buxton for a possible burial site.
Police say that the brothers, aged 25 and 31, and known as ‘Psycho’ and ‘Madman’, have had previous brushes with the law.
Kwame Jobronewet, also known as Romie Johnston, disappeared under mysterious circumstances on June 12, 2009, shortly after arriving in Guyana to bury his mother, a well-known Buxton resident.
While Phyllis Browne, a cousin of Jobronewet, said that he left Buxton, a Buxton shopkeeper claimed that a man fitting Jobronewet’s description had attempted to make a purchase at his shop that night.
