ROSE HALL TOWN, CORENTYNE – The stage is set to usher in the 39th Anniversary of Rose Hall Town on the Corentyne.
In observance of this milestone, activities have been identified for the Rose Hall Town Week from September 20th to 27th.
Kicking off the event is the display by paratroopers from the Guyana Defence Force next Sunday at the Area ‘H’ Ground at Rose Hall Town.
Chairman of the Rose Hall Interim Management Committee (RHIMC), Bhadenauth Somrah, while not elaborating, indicated that a team from Camp Ayanganna was expected to inspect the venue yesterday Sunday.
The Rose Hall Town Interim Management Committee and the Rose Hall Town Anniversary Committee are responsible for the events.
Somrah explained that since the Council does not have the necessary financial resources, the decision was taken in 2008 for other organisations to assist in hosting the events.
“The Rose Hall Town Anniversary Committee would put their money at their own risk and if they make a profit, the Rose Hall Interim Management Committee has nothing to do with it. Of course any money made during the Town Week would be used to offset the expenses and if there is a surplus it would go to the organisation (Rose Hall Town Anniversary Committee) that is involved. None would go to the IMC because the Council did not invest any but the organisation (Rose Hall Town Anniversary Committee) would use it for the benefit of the Rose Hall Town.”
On the first day, there would also be a fitness walk from the University of Guyana, Tain Campus, to the Rose Hall Town Arch. This would be used to highlight the plight of those grappling with domestic violence. Later on the same day, the softball cricket competition will take place and the majorettes out of Kildonan are expected to strut their stuff.
There would however be no official opening ceremony, but the Praise and Worship Ceremony at the Rose Hall Town Arch on September 21st would be used to highlight the strides made over the decades. All religious groups are invited to be a part of this event.
A Spelling Bee Competition for the four Primary Schools within the catchment area is billed for September 23rd. The Awards Ceremony for teachers within the Rose Hall Town zone, would be held two days later. Five educators have been identified. September 25th would also see the playoff of the Central Corentyne teams during the floodlight basketball competition at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
The zenith is the Street Fair and exhibition on the 26th. The curtain comes down with a beach party at the Rose Hall Town beach on the 27th followed by the football competition at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
The main goal of the Town Week is to showcase the journey from September 20th, 1970 to present day. The Rose Hall Town Week is being observed under the Theme ‘Much Refined at 39 in 2009’
