The Youth Ministries Department of First Assembly of God (FAOG), Wortmanville, will be hosting its annual Gospel Fest under the theme, “The Rising.”
Over the years, Gospel Fest has been used as an avenue to promote local talent and to provide a stage that has taken local artistes across the Caribbean and the World, while crossing cultural and denominational barriers.
Many of the more prominent local Gospel artistes had their debut at Gospel Fest and it has also been documented as a show that has had sold-out crowds at the National Cultural Centre for the past four years.
The venture’s boundaries are being widened and gospel lovers are advised to set aside two nights for the extravaganza.
The first night is dedicated to a genre of musical talents and those carded to grace the stage of the National Cultural Centre include Ruth Osman-Rose. Ruth has performed her jazz-style gospel at previous Gospel Fests and this year is no different.
Anil Azeez, no stranger to the Gospel Fest stage, will be adding his chutney style to the celebration. Newcomer Joanne Singh performed at the Guyana Music Festival. Second Coming Band, Yohan Jackman, Pastor McDonald from the mining town of Linden and the Dominion Male Dancers, are some of the other artistes performing at this year’s event.
The artiste List – for the Saturday September 19 show also includes Faithful Four – Cox Brothers, Miriam Corlette-Williams, Michelle Parsram, Trenacia Esseboom, Marissa Massiah, Amy & Kimberly, FAOG Youth Worshippers, FAOG Male Quintet, FAOG Drama Group – Pre-recorded sketches, FAOG Dancers – (Glorifiers/Kingdom Dancers), Combined Dance – (Dominion & FAOG Dancers), Samuel Medas and the National YM Dancers.
The second night will be dedicated to Drama and Dance. The performing arts will be depicting a play written by Raschid Osman. This will be showcased at the Theatre Guild Playhouse.
“Everytime I feel the spirit”- is about families in a tenament yard living out their lives in varying degress of happiness and frustration and they are caught in a cycle of betrayal and yearning to escape the hopelessness of lives in the yard.
Gospel Fest, the festival of the creative and performing arts, will be held on September 19 at the National Cultural Centre and September 20 at Theatre Guild Playhouse. Both shows commence at 20:00 hrs.
