Dear Editor,
The introduction of the recent fashion show in Guyana was a very interesting phenomenon that was broadcast on NCN channel 11 live last Sunday night (06-09-09).
I kept my television on to observe what is really happening in our society. I discovered it was a male and female fashion show that was in operation at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel.
To my amazement lots of prominent people from all walks of life in Guyana attended this popular fashion show.
I saw male and female models came out with all sorts of weird styles and fashions just to display their nude bodies.
Many of these naked attires captured the attention of my mind, I felt as if I am no longer in Guyana, but somewhere in Europe or France. All the young ladies had to model in their bras and bikini, also the men modeled in men’s undergarment as well. It was shocking to see some female models with actually no clothes on very early at night on NCN that looked like a porn display .While the crowd was going mad like when Nero was burning Rome.
Those who advocated this fashion show are only leading our young generation astray. What example are these people portraying to our society? What example are these young models portraying to our younger generation? It seems as if we are now on the world market offering our bodies for sale all because of money.
Most of these new ‘clothes line’ I see is unfit for women to wear because it exposed their naked bodies to society. It’s not surprising that we have so much rape and incest today in our country all because of the clothes women wear.
While we are trying to prevent Aids by advocating all sorts of methods; these same individuals are offering sexual immorality to our nation publicly. What manner of young men and young women in their right minds will want to model on a stage 99% naked just for money?
I took the time to research the life styles of models and I found it to be interesting that many female as well as male models are now in the porn industry selling themselves for money.
These are individuals who started their careers as models who became famous then get themselves into porn and drugs just to get more fame. It is not surprising that we have produced more dunces in our country in the Western Hemisphere than any other nation in the world; it is because we have fallen morally, spiritually and academically.
How are we going to prevent aids when our society is filled with prominent business people who are pushing our younger generation to walk almost naked on a stage? I also note with interest that vulgar music from many of our Hit Lists is destroying the moral fabric in our society. This includes a wide range of music.
Many of these songs degrade women that are sung by female singers as well as males yet they are not banned.
It seems as if we have lost our true purpose for living.
How sad it is when I looked at the moral decline in our society – all because we have drifted away from God in search of money.
What I have seen today in our society is moral degradation that needs to be addressed by the Ministry of Human Services and the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture.
A life without purpose is a life of early death. Moral education and the study of religion, classical literature and higher education should be our goals in life.
