Whipple to serve as Technical Director
The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has called to trials players to contest for selection to the final Men’s and Women’s squads that will participate in the North American & Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Sevens Championships in Mexico from November 14-15. Eleven countries along with Mexico will compete at the Championships where the winners of the respective categories receive qualification to represent NACRA, along with Canada, at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Guyana holds both the Men’s and Women’s Regional Sevens titles, having won the former for the last four years.
The first trial game will take place today at the National Park, starting from 14:00 hrs.
The following are the players selected: (Men)- Claudius Butts, Walter George, Devon Spencer, Vallon Adams, Claude Alexander, Dwayne Jordan, Theodore Henry, Richard Staglon, Quincy Jones, Elwin Chase, Leon Greaves, Lancelot Adonis, Christopher Singh, Troy Arjoon, Peabo Hamilton , Robin Cordis, Matthew Talbot, Albert La Rose, Satish Samaroo, Troy Bascom, Aluko Venture, Joseph Rahaman, Derrick London, Dwayne Schroeder, Syon Kitt, Algernon Felix, Scron Cox, Jevon Easton and Terrence Daniels.
The Women’s team will be chosen from: Laurel Anderson, Shebana Daniels, Sabola Gray, Grace Jarvis, Marcy Jarvis, Andrea Lashley, Karen Norville, Carren Skeete, Abigail Tinnis, Fiona Ward, Shondell Hyles, Vionette Profitt, Cindy Fraser, Karen Skeete, Debbie Sampson, Nicolette Shako, Nicole Nero, Anneisa DeAbreau, Candacia Semple, Niketa Davis, Alicia Jhaloo, Collette Hope, Shanelle Daniels, Desaun Josiah, Cloetta Dublin, Veeshana Castello, Alexis Gordon, Alicia Mentore and, Natasha Andrews.
Meanwhile, Head Coach of Rugby West Indies Team, Joe Whipple has accepted an invitation from the GRFU to serve as Technical Director to Guyana’s National Men’s Sevens Team. Whipple will work along with Laurie Adonis, who has been appointed Head Coach of the National Team. Robin Roberts has been appointed Team Manager.
Kevin Mc Kenzie, who currently playing for Bracknel Rugby Club in the UK and Rupert Giles, who also lives in the UK and plays with Hartpury Rugby Academy has also been invited to join the squad.
