Pele wacked Golden Stars 10-0, Flamingo eased past Uitvlugt 4-1, Fruta Conquerors brushed aside Timehri Panthers 8-0 and the Brazilians schooled Thomas United 6-2 when the 6th Annual Mackeson/English/Kashif & Shanghai knock-out Futsal competition continued on Monday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Pele, were too much of a well oiled unit for the East Demerara based Golden Stars to handle, the latter being outclassed in the end. Solomon Austin netted a hat-trick (2, 28, 30) with Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant (5, 16) and Keoma Gravesande (22, 27) scoring doubles, S. Yorrick (11), Mervin Joseph (15) and Shemroy Arthur in the 18th minute all contributed one each. Fruta Conquerors were in equally dismissive mode, blanking Timehri Panthers 8-0. Veteran Gerald Gritten led the way for Conquerors with three goals, scoring in the 4th, 9th and 24th minutes. Odel Williams hit the network twice (12, 15) while there was one each from Paul Bobb in the 9th, Joylon Harry (19) and Trevon Lythcott in the 22nd minute.
The Brazilian side took Thomas United to school with a 6-2 whipping. Elcio Quiveira led the winners with a hat-trick (5, 18, 26), Diego Santos contributed a double (6, 30) with the other coming off the boot of Sandro do Valle in the 12th.
The Brazilians displayed flashes of brilliant futsal skills and are expected to reinforce their bench for upcoming matches. Their strengthening will add a touch of class not only to their own showing but to the competition as a whole with the local sides now having to step it up if they are to overcome the challenge of their fellow South Americans.
Flamingo, no strangers to futsal glory, were too hot for West Demerara’s Uitvlugt to handle, the latter going down 4-1.
They actually drew first blood when Lerone Jacobs netted in the 2nd minute of the game but Flamingo never showed any signs of bother as they went about the business of demolishing their opponents with ease. Deon Allen and Seon Porter each scored twice for Flamingo, Allen in the 4th and 21st; Porter in the 9th and 12th minutes.
In the two exhibition matches, Media United tasted victory over Sweet Point 4-3 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and extra time. In the other game, North East got the better of the Barber Shack, 5-2.
