Pomeroon and South Essequibo recorded victories as the Busta Essequibo 50 overs Cricket Festival continued last Sunday with two matches in Zone A.
At Lima, Pomeroon defeated North Essequibo by 93 runs. Pomeroon batted first and piled up 324 all out off 45 overs. Ramesh Narine belted 86 while Anthony Persaud and Barry Alphonso supported with 52 and 39 respectively. Elroy Stephney grabbed 4-43, Navin Bahadur 2-48 and Mark Tyrell 240 for North who were bowled out for 231 in 38 overs.
Rajiv Manichand was their leading run getter with 72 while Uvindra Balgobin and Mark Tyrell contributed 37 each and Navin Bahadur 27. Ramesh Narine came back to snatch 3-30 and Basil Persaud 2-44 for the victors. The game was reduced to 45 overs due to a late start.
At Golden Fleece South Essequibo got the better of Central Essequibo by 1 wicket.
Central took first strike and made 200 all out in 43 overs. Mahindra Boodram top scored with 42, while Ian Gonsalves assisted with 27 and Ganesh Mangal 25. Patrick Rooplall was the main wicket taker for South with 4-23 and Royan Federicks took 3-25.
In reply South won the battle in 41 overs ending on 201- 9. Federicks returned to score 59 while Floyd Henry 50 and Norman Federicks 37 also batted well. Herell Green took 3-32, Koolraj Persaud 3-24 and Yougheshwar Lall 2-31 for Central.
The competition continues on Sunday.
