A man who claims he is innocent of any crime is now nursing a gunshot wound to his right leg as a patient in the Georgetown Hospital. However, residents in the immediate environs of Charlotte Street describe him as drug-using menace who was shot while attempting to escape with a case of drink bottles on his head.
Identified as Wayne Rogers aka ‘Yarris,’ aged 32, of Castello Housing Scheme, the wounded man claims he was walking through a yard in Charlotte Street with a case of drink bottles on his head when suddenly he heard people screaming “thief”, then he heard what sounded like a shot fired and the next thing he knew he was hit.
There are mixed reports of how he got to the Georgetown Hospital. Some say he ran to the hospital several blocks away while other say he was dropped off there.
Kaieteur News was at the hospital when the man became disorderly in his quest to be served “something to eat.” He eventually fell asleep.
