Last Saturday at GCC ground, Bourda, both teams from Upper Corentyne, defeated the Floodlight teams in two thrilling softball matches, and took away the Sankar Autoworks and Petama Enterprise trophies.
The match between Scottsburg United and Floodlight B ended in a tie, with the result being decided in a one over play-off. Floodlight B batted first, made 176 for 8 of the allotted 20 overs, with Rajin Mohamed hitting a splendid 71.
When Scottsburg batted 6 runs were required in the final over which was bowled by the experienced Mike Singh, and a misfield helped Scottsburg to level the score at 176. In the one over play-off Floodlight B batted first, made 11 runs, which was acquired by Scottsburg with 2 balls to spare, after Ivor Burr hit 2 massive sixes.
In the first match, Floodlight A reached a formidable 216 runs off 25 overs against Vishnu Super Store, with Unos Mohamed 36 and Mark Harold 48 not out. Best bowler for Vishnu Super Store was Fabian Seeraj with 3 wickets for 40 runs.
The men from Upper Corentyne were able to reach their target in 24 overs due to two brilliant innings from Eric Dan, 73 and Imran Mohamed, 86 despite some good bowling by Rohan Boojraj with 2 wickets for 18 runs off 5 overs and Ramchand Ragbeer 3 wickets for 21 runs off 4 overs. All trophies were sponsored by Petama Enterprise of Delph Street and Sankar Autoworks of Durey Lane & Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
