Dear Editor,
The Kaieteur News has been carrying a report that the GECOM Chairman, Dr. Steve Surujbally, was finding the current abuse poured on GECOM, to be incomprehensible and inexplicable. Let me give Dr. Surujbally a few ideas which might make the matter comprehensible.
It is possible that there is no money in the PPP/C’s war chest to wage a Local Government Elections in 2010 and the National Elections in 2011.
The PPP/C is concerned that it could lose face in Local Government Elections. This would not auger well for them as a precursor to the National Elections.
Things can be escalated to such a point that the Chairman resigns in disgust, thus creating a situation where there can be no Local Government Elections or National Elections. The smearing of this goodly man’s name has begun and will continue unabated, especially since, he, as GECOM Chairman cannot really descend into a mud-slinging match without lowering his own credibility.
Besides, this is a contest he cannot win, since he does not have the mechanism and the staff with which to do battle.
All of the above have one common denominator: The PPP/C and the PNCR do not want to have Local Government Elections, in spite of their grandstanding. B. Sewkarran
