Dear Editor,
The authority of the regional Administration should be extended conveniently to facilitate mediation in land disputes in Mahdia and further, in order to resolve issues to some extent, until the arrival of the lands and surveys officials from Georgetown or Linden, to deal with such matters.
People who have land disputes have no alternative but to travel to the city to consult with lands and surveys, where they are referred to Linden.
If the disputants are not satisfied they would return to the city for further action. Finally, Lands and Surveys would give the disputants a date when they would visit Mahdia.
Let’s contrast the economics, should the Madhia Administration be empowered to mediate pending the arrival of the relevant authorities. Return bus fare from Madhia to the city and back is $16,000 inclusive of meals on the way; travel expenses around the city and to Linden; meals and accommodation on a 3 to 4-day stay would strike a grand total of $50,000, the least.
What an extravagant expenditure for the small man! Whereas, this cost could be slashed consistently or even avoided, so far should the Mahdia Administration be empowered to mediate in land disputes, pending the arrival of Lands and Surveys officers.
