Members of the differently able clan would have the perfect opportunity to debunk the view that they are incapable of participation in rigid physical activity, when the Rotary Club of Georgetown hosts their Bi-annual day of sports that incorporates their unique skills, on Sunday September 27, at the Banks DIH, Thirst Park, commencing at 08:00hrs.
More than 1200 participants from institutions and villages countrywide would match wits and skills in 25 events that include the 50m dash for mentally retarded boys and girls, 8-11 years old.
Participants would also vie for honours in the 80m dash for boys and girls that are visually impaired. Much fun is also anticipated in the male and female bag race, the 80m dash for one arm amputees, male and female musical chairs the 80m egg and spoon race and the bun eating female open.
The organizers have promised a day of fun and jollification and wish to encourage full support from the public.
Activities would be called to order at 08:00hrs, moments before the welcome remarks which, may be delivered by Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Frank Anthony, who has been invited to do so by President of the Rotary Club, Mr. Pradeep Santani.
The various banners would then be put on display before the Guyana Defence Force band leads the march past.
Each participant will be presented with a gift and parents with physically and mentally challenged children, whether they are part of several organisations to be represented, are invited to bring their charges along.
