Teams from the City, Linden, East & West Demerara face off
The quest for the top prize of $500,000, trophy and bragging rights will commence in earnest tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when the 6th Mackeson sponsored English/Kashif & Shanghai knock-out Futsal competition gets cracking.
As was stated before, this year’s competition will not provide second chances for none of the competing teams; winners advance, losers go home.
This tournament comes on the heals of the recently concluded Banks DIH/GFA/NSC competition which saw Uprising emerging as champions following victory over Flamingo in the final.
From tonight’s opening salvo at 19:00hrs between Beacon of Georgetown and East Demerara’s BV Triumph United the Sports Hall will be buzzing with excitement and anxiety with teams trying their utmost to minimize mistakes while maximizing opportunities to solidify their chances of evading the plank.
West Demerara’s Den Amstel, out of competitive action for quite some time, will face the tough task of putting away the reigning futsal kings, Uprising. It will be difficult for the former West Side division one champions to get past a unit that has been very active and well oiled, but the deal would have to be settled on court.
The main supporting game of the evening will see another West Side team in the West Bank based Young Achievers locking horns with Linden side, Winners Connection. Again in this instance, Winners are much more established as opposed to Young Achievers so predicting a winner in this encounter will be a difficult even though, Winners will start as favourites.
The night capper, a City/Linden affair, brings together Riddim Squad and Bakewell Topp XX. The 5-time Kashif and Shanghai champs, Topp XX will start as the odds on favourite to advance but must leave nothing to chance against opponents who are surely also aiming to prove their worth.
An entertaining evening of high level play is anticipated and fans are assured that adequate security will be in place for their vehicles within the confines of the CASH.
