The fierce rivalry between Georgetown and East Coast teams continue when Bourda Market and Plaisance Market face off in a highly anticipated thriller to bring the curtains down on the Inter-Market Football Championships, at the Georgetown Football Club ground on Monday.
At stake is the honourable accolade of being adjudged the top market plus bragging rights.
This follows the third place playoff between Kitty and Stewartville Markets.
With big guns such as Omali Nassy, Quincy Madramootoo, Wendell St Hill, Gordon Henry and Terrance “Old Head” Lewis, Kitty Market would fancy their chances of securing the third place, while Stewartville will be fielding two giants in Owen McGarrell and Leary Loncke, in their quest to fill the spot.
Bourda Market will start as favourites in the feature match and with such stars as former national youth player, Manasseh Primo, Alpha Sylvester and Calvin Shepherd, they may just have enough ammunition to fire their team into the winning seat.
On the other hand, Plaisance will depend on national senior players, Warren Gilkes and John Heliger plus a plethora of other established players, to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat.
Meanwhile, in the first semi final played last Thursday, Bourda Market turned back the challenge of Stewartville Market 2-1 in an exciting and competitive game. The dependable, Manasseh Primo opened Bourda’s account shortly before Owen McGarrell equalised for Stewartville. Calvin Shepherd scored in the second half and sealed the deal for Bourda Market.
The tournament is sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd, under the Power Stout Brand. The winners will cart off $150,000, while the second place finisher take home $100,000.
The third and fourth placed finishers will win $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
