Roseau, Dominica: West Indies Cricket Board Director and President of the Dominica Cricket Association, Emmanuel Nanthan, says that the Digicel Cricket Clinics is critical to the development of youth cricket across the region.
“This (Digicel Cricket Clinic) is a crucial and critical aspect of your cricket development programme,” Nanthan told the participants at the opening of the Digicel Cricket Clinics at the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica on Tuesday morning.
In an inspiring address, Nanthan praised Digicel for sponsoring the Digicel Cricket Clinics and urged the youngsters to take full advantage of the opportunity afforded them for the development of their respective skills.
“In all of you here today, we see hope, we see vision, we see success. Learn as much as you can, do as well as you can, help your teammates as much as you can and let’s play in love and unity,” Nanthan appealed.
The Digicel Cricket Clinics have completed successful stints in the British Virgin Islands and Jamaica and kicked off in Dominica on Tuesday, shortly after the Island’s under-13 team returned from an invitational tour to St Kitts where they reached the semi final.
The entire under-13 squad joined other selectees in the Digicel Cricket Clinics at the premier cricketing venue in Dominica, where international cricket was first played mere weeks ago when the West Indies team faced Bangladesh in two Digicel One Day Internationals.
Digicel-sponsored West Indies wicketkeeper, Denesh Ramdin, said of the Digicel Cricket Clinics and their importance to developing cricket in the Caribbean: “I am delighted to be involved with the Digicel Cricket Clinics.
It is important that we focus on developing our future cricketers of the West Indies, not just on the senior team.”
The three-day clinics were conducted by former West Indies cricketer, Keith Arthurton – who has had extensive experience coaching youths in his native St Kitts & Nevis, with assistance from Ramdin and West Indies and Guyanese batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
Local coaches, Lockhart Sebastien – a former Dominica and Windward Islands player, and Shane Shillingford – a current Dominica and Windward Islands player, also assisted Arthurton.
