Dear Editor,
Last week I wrote that the ‘AFC is in a pickle’ because of reasons obvious to all excepting Norman Browne and Mark Thomas.
Mr. Thomas chides me for not providing evidence that there were issues of transparency at the recent PNC Biennial Congress. I must say I have no idea in what part of the world this Mr. Thomas is living. If he wants a blow by blow account of what happened he should contact Dr. Van-West Charles.
Apparently Browne and Thomas think that the evidence supplied by Van-West Charles and other PNC members who were involved in the Biennial Congress should not be taken seriously. Gentlemen – the fairness of the election is in doubt and the people who have said so are high ranking PNC members. What more do you want to hear?
As for Browne I have only this to say – sort out which party you support. You are sort of an AFC supporter, but not quite. You were once a PNC man, but perhaps not so much any longer. I suppose you will wait to declare a bit later, depending on the direction of the wind.
The more important issue though concerns the difficult position that the AFC finds itself in. Here is the dilemma in a nutshell. The AFC is in a joint opposition with the PNC and the main function of the joint thing is to call for transparency, good governance etc. Can the AFC really live with itself making these demands of a government elected by more than 54% of the electorate, while it simultaneously sits on the same bench with a party that only a week ago rigged its own election?
I should also say I have nothing personal against Mr. Ramjattan and Mr. Trotman. They are leaders of a political party and members of the parliament of this country. In fact, it is precisely because of who they are that I would like them to give me an answer to the question above. It is irrelevant what Browne and Thomas think. Again – where does the AFC stand on rigged elections?
