Wakenaam, Central E’bo, Pomeroon record victories

Wakenaam, Central Essequibo and Pomeroon recorded victories when the Busta Essequibo 50 overs Cricket Festival continued on Sunday with three matches.
In the lone Zone B fixture at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground, host Wakenaam defeated Leguan by 72 runs.
Led by the inform Nazeer Mohamed, who was run out off the last ball of their innings after making 43, Oyono Sampson and Ricardo Adams 17 the home team scored 153 all out after the game was reduced to 30 overs due to overnight rain.
Leg spinner Rameshwar Oudit was Leguan best bowler with 3-16 while Hookumchand Savitir took 3-22 and Brian Roopchand 2-28.
In reply the visitors were bowled out for 81 in 17 overs.  Munesh Jattan led with 29 and Trevor White supported with 24.
Left arm spinner Imran Khan was the pick of the Wakenaam bowlers with 4-11 while Mohamed showed his allround ability with 3-11 and Olwin Paton 2-19.
Over in Zone B at Queenstown, Central Essequibo got the better of North Essequibo by 21 runs.
Central batted first and made 146 all out in 29 overs.  Denesh Joseph and Latchman Rohit scored 31 each while Yogeshwar Lall assisted with 25 as Uvendra Balgobin grabbed 3-19 and Safraz Alli 3-27 for North, who in their turn at the crease made 125 in 28.2 overs with extras contributing with 29.  Rohit and Lall bagged 3 wickets apiece for the victors.  The game was reduced to 30 overs due to rain.
At Cavaliers ground in Pomeroon, the host overcame South Essequibo by 5 wickets.  South took first strike and managed 185 all out in 31 off their allotted 38 overs in another rain affected game.
Dillon Heyliger led with 60 while Patrick Rooplall supported with 41.  Barry Alphonso 3-20, Basil Persaud 3-32 and Anthony Persaud 2-5 were the wicket takers for Pomeroon who responded with 186 – 5 in 33 overs.
Alphonso returned with the bat to score 52 while Anthony Persaud also got 52 n.o and Ramesh Narine 30 n.o for the winners. The competition continues over the weekend.
