I am not afraid of Saul– says Greene

Rawle Greene is convinced that there is no local athlete that can threaten him in the sprint events and that the talk of him being afraid of Michael Saul is unfounded because the two have not been tested in any substantive race.
Greene told Kaieteur Sport that no one should think that he has withdrawn his enthusiasm for track and field as a result of Saul, who became the new national sprint champion after Greene opted out of the100m at the senior trials.
Saul went on to win the race after previously beating Greene in the 100m at a competition in Blairmont in the lead-up to the National Senior Championships. The injury explanation was not enough to satisfy some luminaries.
As a result, the alleged rumour mill started to churn out debate after debate on whether or not the former double sprint champion was fearful of damaging his reputation against the new sprint champion with his evasions earlier.

any athlete who is in the same race with me, I look forward to competing with and no athlete is a threat,” Greene told this newspaper when contacted yesterday
“I was injury prone this year with three injuries, which I am rectifying for next season, so I don’t know why you would want to think that I am afraid. There was just one meet that brought us together this year,” the sprinter added.
Greene made it clear that whoever wants to assume that he is scared of competing against Saul have the liberty to do so since it will just be their ignorant opinion. “Whoever wants to believe so doesn’t know track and field,” he said.
He indicated that he is doing light training at the moment but there are personal situations that do not allow him to train as often sometimes. However, that, according to him, is not to say that he is distracted or fearful of losing.
There must be an occasion that brings the two sprint aces together to settle the dispute of who is really the fastest man living in Guyana.
That may come sooner rather than later in an emphatic manner but for now the talk continues.
Greene said that he has his eyes set on the London Olympic Games in 2012. Meanwhile, Saul will continue to impress critics when he goes up against his counterparts in the Joint Service Championships slated for next month.
