The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is warning consumers of faulty cellular phones being presented for sale. In a press release, the entity noted that within the last three weeks, there has been a significant increase in the amount of complaints relating to the quality of cellular phones sold on the local market.
The release stated that the GNBS has received more than seven complaints about poor quality cellular phones, and notes that this is of a great concern.
The Bureau stated that it is urging consumers to purchase cell phones from dealers registered with the GNBS, where they can obtain quality phones, written warranties and receipts, and redress, in the event of their phones becoming defective after use.
Consumers are also being advised to check for signs of damage or previous use: scratches, stains, fading of keypad and display areas and evidence of screwdriver use to determine whether screws were tampered with. They should also ensure that they receive an original battery and charger; by verifying that the brand of the battery and charger correspond to that of the phone, adding that any operational manual received should be in the English Language.
The GNBS advises that call timers should be checked for previous call information, and is further urging importers and dealers to register annually with the Bureau.
