Aug 30, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
It is with sadness of heart that I sit to pen this letter. The PNC’s congress would have been concluded and Robert Corbin would have been re-elected Party Leader. But to all those who would have voted and would have manipulated the ballot for Mr. Corbin to retain his position, I want to say to all of you, your minds are as small as or even smaller than an earth worm’s belly. Whoever you are, hold yourselves accountable for what is to come. The African population will cry out for more pain, because as Frederick Kissoon wrote in one of his column: “The PNC will self destruct” and they certainly did when they returned Robert Corbin as leader. He can never realise being the President of this country. Are we as a people so blind that we can’t see something that is so plain for all to see? The PNC has been going down a steep slope that is lathered with grease for a long time now, now the slope has gotten steeper and they themselves have applied more grease. The end will be swift I hope not final. Oh! I wonder about our negative thinking. I read Peeping Tom for the first time completely on, “Winston Murray the Obamma of Guyana.” And his writing mirrored some of my thoughts. The PNC had a wonderful opportunity to turn things around, but like school boys at play they muffed it. The void that exists between the two peoples of Guyana cannot be bridged by Robert Corbin. He doesn’t have the finesse to achieve that. Winston Murray would have been the ideal person for the job he had so much going for him: experience; no baggage; intellect and moral standing and the backing of intelligent and knowledgeable people. The reform was a working reinforced arm of the party under Hoyte’s tenure as leader. It disintegrated when Corbin became leader, why?
Are our minds so small that all we can look for is minor things, and forget the important thing “Issues”, by turning a blind eye to what could have been the achievements of the PNC, with Winston Murray at the helm. We shot ourselves in the foot. We are a paralyzed people, simply because of racist thinking and racist actions.
I take my hat off to Dr. Van-West Charles for his unselfish mode and I applaud Stanley Ming, Jerome Khan and Kads Khan for their support of Winston Murray for leader. By coming out to support Mr. Murray they revealed to all that we have nothing against the PNC.
Ewart Small
