Wakenaam defeated Bartica by 11 runs as the Essequibo Leg of the Neal and Massy 40 overs nationwide cricket competition commenced on Friday with one game in Zone B.
Bartica won the toss and asked host Wakenaam to bat first at the Noitgedacht Cricket Ground.
Nazeer Mohamed 66, Neil Ramalho 42 and Ricardo Adams 31 were the main scorers as Wakenaam made 231 all out in 38.1 overs. Left arm spinner Andrew Wong bagged 3-64 while Festus Benn and Andrew Williams took two wickets each for the visitors.
Bartica responded with 220 all out in 34 overs. Essequibo allrounder Robert Moore top scored with 66, while Kellon Tracy supported with 42 and Kenzo Baksh 36.
Vice captain Adams, the Guyana U-15 player, took 3-24 off 6 overs while left arm spinner Imran Khan captured 3-55 and Olwin Paton 2-32 for the winners.
