After several weeks of intense competition, the Linden leg of the Mike’s Pharmacy Countrywide Softball Cricket tournament will conclude on the September 6 with the semi-finals and finals of each category being played. Consequently the two best teams in each category will progress to the knockout stage of the various categories. They include the Kiddy Care tournament for the Under-15 level, the Wellwoman trophy for the females, the Wellman Trophy for the Over-40s and the Mike’s Pharmacy trophy for the male regular/open division. From the start of the day’s activities, at around 09:00hrs, patrons would be treated to intense action when the two best U-15 teams battle for honours. The semi-final match between the females and the regular open will also take centre field. There will also be a double wicket competition for the males and females with teams vying for cash incentives among other prizes. Other matches to be played on that day will see a highly anticipated grudge match between the males and females from East and West Linden. There would also be an exhibition match between Rangers Sports Club the current Demerara champions as well as the Sunrise Cricket Club, who distinguished themselves as the top Linden team in the just concluded floodlights tournament.
Once again fans would be treated to a spectacular match when the male and females teams contest for honours under floodlights.
The organizers have also promised a fun filled day characterized by music as well as lots to eat and drink. Consequently, the West Demerara females and a Linden combined female team will engage in an exhibition match. Thereafter, the two top teams from the finals of each category will advance to the knockout stage against Georgetown, in Georgetown, on the Sunday September 13. Ansa Mc Al will sponsor the day’s events.
