Launch six nation clinics in BVI, 120 youths to take part
Road Town, Tortola: Digicel, proud sponsor of cricket in the West Indies, on Friday launched the first leg of the Digicel Cricket Clinics 2009 in the British Virgin Islands, with the help of Digicel-sponsored West Indies cricketers, Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Denesh Ramdin.
Over twenty talented young cricketers from the British Virgin Islands will be put through their paces during the three day clinic led by Head Coach, Keith Arthurton, and assisted by the three West Indies cricketers.
Digicel sponsored West Indies cricketer, Chris Gayle, said at the launch of the Digicel Cricket Clinics in BVI: “I’m delighted to be here to help launch the Digicel Cricket Clinics. These Clinics are a great opportunity for young cricketers to learn some important skills to improve their game. This is a fantastic initiative that gives us the chance to coach talented young cricketers. It is really important that they have opportunities like this to learn from great coaches such as Keith Arthurton, as these young cricketers are the future of West Indies cricket.”
Digicel BVI CEO, Alan Bates, said: “Digicel is delighted to be launching the second Digicel Cricket Clinics here in the British Virgin Islands. We are committed to supporting the development of cricket at all levels and we want to give young West Indian cricketers every opportunity to develop their skills. The first Digicel Cricket Clinics in 2007 were a huge success and we are happy to be bringing this year’s Clinics to another six countries across the Caribbean.”
The Digicel Cricket Clinics are fully endorsed by the West Indies Cricket Board and are coordinated in conjunction with the national cricket association in each country. In addition to providing youths with an opportunity to develop their cricket game, local coaches will also receive tips and guidance from former West Indies cricketers and Head Coaches of the Digicel Cricket Clinics, Keith Arthurton and Kenny Benjamin.
After the British Virgin Islands, the Digicel Cricket Clinics move on to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and will feature Head Coach, Kenny Benjamin, and Digicel-sponsored West Indies cricket stars, Chris Gayle and Jerome Taylor.
The Digicel Cricket Clinics will also take place in Barbados, Dominica and Turks & Caicos and will feature Head Coach, Keith Arthurton, and Digicel-sponsored West Indies cricketers, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Denesh Ramdin.
