Participation criteria for Demerara selection says DCB
By Sean Devers
Due to the playing-off of the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) 2-Day First Division semi-finals, the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) has agreed to postpone some matches in the opening round of their National Neal & Massy 40-overs first division competition which were set for this weekend.
Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Everest will not be involved in this weekend’s matches of the Demerara zone of the Neal & Massy competition.
According to DCB’s Secretary Samaroo Jailall, discussions with the GCA have resulted in the first round matches involving the four teams in the GCA semi-finals, to be played on Wednesday.
Malteenoes host GNIC and Everest entertain DCC in the GCA’s 2-day semi-finals from today while the GCA 2nd division 2-day game fixed for the MSC ground between MSC and Transport has been shifted to the GNIC ground to accommodate the use of the MSC ground for the 1st division 2-day game.
“We (DCB) spoke with the GCA and have decided to revise our fixtures to accommodate their semi-finals. If the Neal & Massy matches are played during the week then we can continue according to the fixtures from next weekend without any disruption,” Jailall informed Kaieteur Sports.
Fourteen first division teams from West Demerara, East Bank Demerara, Georgetown and East Coast Demerara will compete in two groups on a round robin basis in the Demerara zone of the Neal & Massy competition
Teams in Group ‘A’ are: DCC, Malteenoes, UG, GCC, Police, GNIC and Nandy Park while Group ‘B’ teams are East Coast, Everest, Mavericks, GDF, New Line Cavalier, Transport and Lusignan.
“This competition would be used by selectors to select the Demerara one day squad for the impending Guyana Cricket Board Inter County competition. All players not excused or not on International duties are expected to participate,” informed Jailall.
According to the DCB, excused players are those injured or overseas on DCB’s or GCB’s permission.
In today’s first round action, University of Guyana (UG) play Police at Eve Leary in the only Zone ‘A’ match while in the other zone, hosts Enterprise face-off with Lusignan and Mavericks take on Cavaliers at Canal Number 2. Tomorrow (Sunday) none of the scheduled zone ‘A’ games will be played but Enterprise play Transport Sports Club at Enterprise and GDF battle Mavericks at Uitvlugt.
The DCB says a list of players must be submitted along with match reports at the end of the first round to the DCB’s Competition Committee while the date of birth and specialty of all players under the age of 19 must be indicated.
All Matches start at 11:00 hrs and match reports must be submitted within 48 hours of the end of each match.
