With less than 48 hours remaining before D-day, Bushy Park resembled race day and there is no doubt that tomorrow’s Barbados Auto Racing League’s Seaboard Marine Caribbean Series will see a packed house.
Led by the veteran Andrew King, the Guyanese contingent that includes Kevin Jeffrey, Gavin Gayadin, Gavin Gouveia, Stephen Vieira and Maurice Menezes all looked impressive during practice sessions yesterday, but equally impressive were the locals Stuart Maloney, his brother Mark, Stuart Williams, Barry, Mayers and Jamaican David Summerbell, which sets up an intriguing battle for supremacy.
With qualifying sessions slated to commence from 14:00 hrs today, all eyes will be on the Group 4 category where the likes of King, Jeffrey, and Summerbell are expected to push the Bajan contingent of the brink for pole position, always a decisive factor at the Bushy Park Circuit.
The weather is expected to be fine and conducive for exciting duels and some close finishes with fan support anticipated to be in the thousands.
King during his workout yesterday clocked around the 42.3 seconds mark and was among the fastest on the track and all eyes will be on the Guyanese ace to see if he still has what it takes to win the Caribbean title, while defending champion Stuart will no doubt try to lay down the gauntlet on the visitors.
Summerbell, who leads the championship will also be thinking of separating himself from the pack so counting him out could prove unwise. Stephen Vieira also was impressive in his practice in the big bike category.
Today is set for some close battles and exciting racing.
