Hopetown and De Edward will clash tomorrow at Blairmont in the final of the New Building Society (NBS) challenge second division 40-over Cricket Competition which attracted over one hundred teams from Berbice.
It is a fitting venue since for the first time two teams from West Berbice will meet in a countywide final in Berbice.
It will be difficult to determine which of two could start as favourites since they are both unbeaten.
De Edward though, participating in Berbice Cricket for over thirty years, have some more experienced players than Hopetown who only resumed playing second division cricket two years ago.
Spearheading De Edward’s batting is former Berbice all-rounder Eon Abel who has registered a century against Edinburgh in their play-off match and also has a half century. Romain Boodram, who also has a century under his belt, Derick Lalsa, Tony Ramanana, Lakraj Sookra and Mahadeo Persaud are also expected to do well.
In the bowling department Abel has so far led the way with his off-spin, while he has been ably backed up by off-spinner Lalsa and medium pacers Marcus, Christian France, Navin Rampersaud and Tony Ramanan.
Hopetown will be spearheaded by two cricketers who have done well at the first division level in the past for West Berbice – Kenje Sedoc who so far is having a low key tournament and Arthley Bailey who has a half century under his belt.
Delon Wayne and Kelwin Bennett have both registered two half centuries while Tyron Liverpool has one.
The bowling will be spearheaded by medium pacer Carwyn Wayne who has 20 wickets in the competition including a 5-wicket haul in the quarter-finals. Emerson Benjamin, Kelwin Bennett, Steffon Adams, Claude Saul, Ruel Edwards and Ludwig Joseph will also need to be on-target for the West Banks side
Before the start of match, the teams will be introduced to NBS’s Senior Manager, Berbice Operations, Anil Beharry and Rosignol Branch manager Ameena Jagnarayan.
The umpires are Mahendra Singh and Zaheer Moakan with Roshan Moakan as the standby and the action starts at 11:00hrs.
