“…I will not sit and be pontificated upon by President Jagdeo”
The Leader of the Opposition, Robert Corbin, has refused an invitation by the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) Cpt. Gerry Gouveia, to attend the body’s gala dinner at which President Bharrat Jagdeo will be delivering the feature address.
Corbin by way of a letter to Cpt. Gouveia said, “As you are aware, both the PNCR and I have always recognised the important role of the Private Sector Commission in the development of Guyana.”
He pointed out that the party has responded positively to the PSC’s various invitations in the past and, “we have brought you up to date on our perspective of the situation in Guyana.” Corbin also drew reference to the most recent action by the joint opposition political parties where they have publicised their views on several matters that they believe are of grave concern, not only to them, but to all Guyana.
“These include a call for an international inquiry to probe into several issues such as, the Government’s involvement with drug lords and the execution of more than 200 youths.”
According to Corbin, the Government, headed by President Jagdeo has so far treated the opposition party’s concerns with what he called, “utter contempt.”
Corbin added that he believes that the PSC headed by Gouveia has not grasped the seriousness of the situation or the extent to which the opposition parties are prepared to go to ensure justice is served.
“Moreover, to date, we have heard no official position of the PSC on these matters. I find it rather insensitive for you to invite my wife and I to sit at your dinner to be pontificated upon by President Jagdeo, to convey the false impression that all is well in Guyana”.
Meanwhile, last evening, a number of PNCR protesters gathered in front of the Pegasus hotel, carrying out their usual picketing exercise, where they called for an investigation into the Roger Khan saga. The small group were overheard chanting their usual slogans, such as “ooooooh, Jagdeo why yuh pushing coke, and “whose money paying for PSC dinner?… Roger Khan money,” along with other sneering slogans. The protesters then waited until President Jagdeo arrived at the hotel to end their protest.
