Coast Guard rescue five from Essequibo River

According to press release from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), on Monday last at around 1345 hours, the Coast Guard, rescued 31-year-old Dennis Williams, a chain saw operator and father of three along with Babi, Dean, Mark and another man known as “Black Ants,” from the murky Essequibo River.
The release stated that the five were occupants of an outboard engine vessel which capsized midstream, between Fort Island and the eastern bank of the river. The point at which the mishap occurred was reportedly more than a mile away from land on either side, and according to Williams, it would have been difficult for any of them to reach land since no one had been wearing life jackets and the vessel was not equipped with any flotation devices.
The army statement added that Williams recounted that they clung to the partially submerged vessel, before “the Coast Guard motor lifeboat appeared on the scene moments after the incident occurred and the Ranks aboard assisted them out of the choppy waters and to safety.”
The Coast Guard then reportedly towed the capsized vessel to the eastern bank of the river and helped the men to right it in order to save the equipment on board. The righted vessel was then towed to Fort Island. According to the army statement, Williams and the other rescued persons praised the Coast Guard for rescuing them.
