Essequibians are in for a treat when Golden Fleece clashes with Johanna Cecila Community High School when the finals of the Thakur Persaud U17, forty overs cricket competition bowls off at Pomona South Essequibo, tomorrow morning.
The competition has produced several exciting matches so far and at the final preliminary round played at Pomona on Sunday, Aurora Secondary defeated Zorg by 4 wickets. Zorg batted first and made 120 all out in 33 overs. Kevin Paul scored 33 to top the batting averages. In reply, Aurora Secondary knocked off the required total in 34 overs losing 6 wickets in the process. Navin Singh (6-15) was the pick of the bowlers for the winning team.
Meanwhile Anthony Adams X1 defeated Vijay Surujpaul X1 by 113 in the South Essequibo U-17 limited overs trial match played recently at Pomona. Anthony Adams X1 amassed 149 all out in 40 overs with Shivnarine Orilall (32), Raj Pattie (25) and Andy Dass (21) being the principal scorers while Matthew Pillew (4-9) and Floyd Small (2-20), were the principal wicket takers.
Also on that day, Vijay Surujpaul X1 lost to Adams X1 after the former team scored 106 all out in 29 overs in reply, Adams X1 197-7. The match is being used to select the South Essequibo U-17 team to play in the impending Essequibo U-17 competition.
