The full force of the military and criminal law should be extended to the three Coast Guard ranks who killed Bartica resident Dweive Kant Ramdass following a brazen multi-million dollar robbery in the Essequibo River.
This is according to Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, who yesterday told the media that such behaviour is ‘unacceptable and unbelievable.’
He stated that the administration has urged a comprehensive investigation, noting that the service must commit to dedicated and intense examination of underlying factors.
“Continued faith in the joint services is equally urged, especially as it was being demonstrated with the much readier provision of confidential information about crime, criminals and other wrong doers,” Dr. Luncheon said.
Heightened civic responsibility, he noted, is one constructive outcome of this criminal act and it should not be overturned by the action of those sworn to protect the people.
According to Dr. Luncheon, the administration echoes the disbelief of the leadership and ranks of the joint services and the news of the horrific crime committed by ranks.
On August 19th last, the three Coast Guard ranks were nabbed at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, after police recovered part of the stolen money.
At the time of the robbery, the now dead Ramdass was reportedly heading to Bartica with $17M to transact business on behalf of his employer.
On Monday last, Sherwyn Harte, 26, of 123 Eccles, East Bank Demerara, Delon Gordon, 21, of 108 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, and Deon Greenidge, 20, of 166 Middle Road, La Penitence, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court and were charged for murder.
