Deon Pearson, an aeronautical engineer, was yesterday placed on $450,000 bail after he made a court appearance before Magistrate Priya Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court.
It is alleged that Pearson on July 18, 2008, with the intent to defraud, obtained $173,000 from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) as a representative of Joseph Thompson, using a forged instrument.
It is further alleged that Pearson on September 19, 2008, with the intent to defraud, obtained $240,000 as a representative of Emmanuel Thomas. Another charge states that the defendant on September 22, obtained $225,000 using a forged instrument as a representative of Selicia Bentick.
Pearson pleaded not guilty to all three charges. He was unrepresented by counsel.
According to Police Prosecutor Munilall Seetaram, all of the defendants are physically disabled. The prosecutor reminded the court that a forged instrument was used to defraud the company. Seetaram also disclosed that Joseph Thompson is a retarded person who resides in the Palms.
The prosecution did not oppose bail, which was subsequently granted in the sum of $450,000. Pearson is expected to make another court appearance on September 28.
