Cricket fans were once again treated to keen contests when the Mike’s Pharmacy 15 overs Countrywide, Round Hand Softball competition continued at various venues last Sunday August 22.
The tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League, witnessed an exciting encounter between Coomaka Queens and Uprising Angels for the Wellwoman trophy. In that match, Coomaka Queens scored a comprehensive victory over Uprising Angels by a 111 runs.
Coomaka Queens batted first and compiled 143 -1 from 7.1 overs. Iris Blunt (68) and Olita Jones (55) were the best batters, while Alisha Grenville (1-19 from 2 overs) was the best bowler on show.
In reply, Uprising Angels could only muster 32 all out in 7.1 overs.
At the West Watooka Ground, Blue Berry Hill Queens defeated Kara Kara Queens by 7 wickets. Kara Kara Queens scored 73 -8 from 10 overs and Blue Berry Hill Queens replied with 74-3 in 8.3 overs.
In the Over-40 category for the Wellman trophy, Savage XI defeated Shattaville Masters by 4 wickets, while over at the Uitvlugt Ground Trophy Stall XI gained a walkover from Uitvlugt Masters.
In the regular/open category for the Mike’s Pharmacy Trophy, Wisrock Pacesetters defeated Uprising CC by 63 runs. Wisrock Pacesetters batted first and scored 187 – 5 in 15 overs and in response Uprising made 124 all out in a losing cause.
In another match Sunrise CC defeated South Star XI by 1 wicket after the latter team had amassed 124 all out in 14 overs.
In matches played at the NIS Ground, Carifesta Avenue, Bent Street XI defeated Lall XI by 1 wicket. Lall XI batted first and scored 153 all out in 13.4 overs after a sterling batting effort by Steve Joseph (40). Bent Street XI replied with 156-9 in 14.5 overs.
The Street Boys XI then defeated Bent Street XI (in their second match) by 61 runs. Street Boys XI batted first and amassed 154 all out in 15 overs. Shoel Mangal (31) top scored with support from Samuel Mangra (22). In reply Bent Street XI weres limited to 93 all out in 13 overs. The action continues this weekend.
